Hey, check it out

EDIT: Updated 10/9/2009!

A post two and a half years in the making. Who'd have thought it?

Nah, not really. This blog is still essentially defunct. However, as I've become aware of the fact that I am fairly hard to shop for, I thought this might be a good place to keep an updated "wish list" sort of thing. So if you're shopping for me and you're a little lost, just ask if I've updated recently, and see if there's anything on this list that might fit the bill.

So, without further ado, and in no particular order...

-Box of Reflections 2 or Reflections 3 (Star Wars CCG)
-Boston Legal, seasons four and five (DVD)
-Box Set of Marx Brothers films, including one or both of Horsefeathers and Duck Soup (DVD)
-The Tick VS Season One, The Tick VS Season Two
-I Love You, Man (DVD)
-Arkham Horror (board game)
-Descent: Journeys in the Dark (board game)
-Freakazoid! volumes one and two (DVDs)
-Batman: The Animated Series (complete series)

And, if nothing there suits your fancy, appropriate gift cards:

-401 Games
-HMV
-Chapters
-Future Shop
-EBGames

So, y'know, hopefully that helps.

Bah!

Okay, so since apparently the "meganet" has been crying with abandonment, I guess I should make another post.

In my defense, I have been hella busy. Here's an example of what I've had this week alone:

Monday: Solo for music due, theatre review for elec comm due
Tuesday: Theatre elements presentation due
Wednesday: Elec comm presentation due, planned improv due
Thursday: Theatre tech quiz
Friday: "show and tell" presentation due

So, yeah. Fuck. I'm also working on a scene study and a theatre company presentation.

Anyways, I thought you all might find this amusing. This is an election sign that's been posted in my area of Oakville. There's something odd about it. Can you tell what it is?

See it? If you need a hint, look at the colour of the text.

That's right, Ms. Wright is using subliminal messages in her campaign! The "nice" and the "right" are conveniently seperate from the rest of the text. And it HAS to be intentional. There's just no other reason to hide that "a" in the "j." I don't know whether to vote for this person for being clever, or to NOT vote for her for being underhanded.

Also, for those I haven't told, fricking Guitar Hero 2 is going to feature Trogdor's theme song from www.homestarrunner.com as a bonus track! I am so unbelievably pumped for this game.

Okay, I guess that's all for now. See you later (but hopefully sooner).

Lo, I Have Returned

Okay, so I don't really have a good reason for going this long without an update. Except for the last week and a half. I've been at school.

And holy hell, is my schedule packed. I go from 9-6 on Mondays and usually 9-4 other days. I's be tired.

Pretty interesting cast of characters here in Sheridan's Performing Arts prep course. I'm being taught acting by this dude and this dude. They're both pretty cool.

My first acting assignment is to prepare a two-minute monologue of my choice just so Lubomir can get a feel for my style of acting. I'm contemplating doing something from Lord of the Rings, cause I'm like that. Maybe the lament for Boromir at the beginning of Two Towers. This Thursday we go to Stratford to see Oliver and Much Ado About Nothing, and then next Tuesday we go to Second City.

See you next time I get a chance to come up for air.

Gather 'round for storytime, everyone

I present to you volume two in our ever-expanding series, Snakes on a Blog. Had to switch to a new host that has a somewhat annoying wait, so sorry about that. Hard to find a free host, apparently. This entry is indeed random, but I think you'll approve of the events that unfold. It's a bit big so I apologize to you slower users.

So, just got home from watching "Conan the Barbarian" at Fil's request. Terrible, terrible movie. I think they probably could have shortened it by an hour just by removing the transitions. Apparently we watched this because Cole and Paul can't be trusted to watch "good" movies in absolute appreciative silence.

Fil, you're a good guy, but you're a bit of a wanker sometimes. We don't just want to watch movies, we want to hang out with our friends. Typically that involves more than appreciative silence. This is why we wanted to play poker - in that we at least get to talk to each other. You needs to get the social skills, mate.

So I've been typing this while waiting for my mp3 to upload. Jeez, it's taking a while. Hope it's worth it. I apologize for any quality issues, I'm trying to get my microphone to behave itself and also trying not to be too loud since I recorded it at one in the morning.

See you next time, where I find out if I can do a Samuel L. Jackson impersonation.

SNAKES ON A BLOG

Well, it's August, and you know what that means.

Yes, that's right. Snakes on a Plane will be released in approximately two and a half weeks.

To commemorate this glorious event, I have purchased the novelization of this soon-to-be-blockbuster, and, being as impressed as I was by it, have taken it upon myself to share its bounty with you all. So, during the remaining two weeks and change before its release, I will periodically be choosing a page or two at random and presenting to you an audio version, as recorded by myself.

This means of course that the possibility for spoilers is rampant (RAMPANT, I say), so listen at your own risk, faithful readers. Be you well warned.

I begin with the novel's opening pages, which, while technically NOT randomly chosen, are still a good place to start. Note the utter lack of snakes, planes, or any kind of exposition that could possibly lead to either of those things.

Here, as they say, it is.

AToM Addendum

It has come to my attention that as Superman was sent from above by his father to aid mankind with his superhuman abilities, and at one point died only to return again later, I perhaps should have known aforehand about his messianic leanings.

My bad.

AToM - I had no idea Superman was Jesus

So, yeah. Saw Superman.

Meh.

The actors were fairly well chosen, and the plot wasn't terrible. The music and special effects worked well. But overall, I think Singer did a bad job.

The pacing was AWFUL. There is no way that movie needed to be 2h45m. There were also several moments that were just handled poorly - unfortunately I can't talk about them without spoiling it, so I'll just say that there are moments that are supposed to be deadly serious that you just laugh at, and others that are supposed to be subtle that just take you right out of the movie.

Oh, also, apparently Superman is Jesus. Bryan Singer told me that through blatant imagery. Yeah, I didn't know either. It just makes me wonder who would win in a fight - Superman, Azlan, or Neo?

I had expected better after the first two X-men flicks. Ah well.

The Spiderman 3 trailer was in front of it as well. Not very impressive. The trailer seems to be stressing the struggle between good Peter Parker and bad Peter Parker once he gets the black suit (which in the comics was the alien symbiote). Judging from the previous two installments in the Spiderman franchise, I just don't think the Spiderman guys are good enough to make that theme work.

Tune in after the holiday weekend, when I may have a special surprise.
